Independent at Work and in Life

Deepak Garg, 33, from Gharaunda in Karnal district, had a life much like anyone else’s until vision loss began to reshape his path. He studied up to the 10th grade at Jain Senior Secondary School, but in 2002, he began experiencing vision problems due to macular degeneration. By 2012, his condition had worsened significantly, forcing him to pause his education.

Despite leaving school early, Deepak was determined to earn a living and started running an electronics shop. However, his worsening eyesight soon made daily tasks and customer service a constant struggle. He had to rely entirely on others whether it was recognising currency, identifying products, or even performing small personal chores.

It was through a relative’s suggestion that Deepak came to know about Eyeway. Once he connected, the team suggested he learn to use TalkBack, an accessibility feature on smartphones. With training, Deepak gradually adapted to technology, which transformed both his personal and professional life. He can now carry out all his daily activities independently, attend to customers at his shop without assistance, identify currency notes, and distinguish between different products.

Encouraged by his progress, Eyeway is now helping Deepak learn Busy Accounting Software to manage his business accounts efficiently. This next step will enable him to handle his shop operations entirely on his own, boosting both his confidence and his livelihood.

Deepak’s journey is proof that the right guidance and accessible technology can open doors to independence, even in the face of vision loss.
