From Learning Gaps to Lasting Impact
Sachin Patel grew up in a small village in Gujarat. Due to limited access to resources and guidance, Sachin’s education was paused for a while, leaving him unsure of the next steps. He had studied up to 10th standard at Victoria Memorial School for the Blind (VMS) in Mumbai. But it was only after a later visit to the Eyeway Helpdesk at the same school that things began to change for him.
The counselors at Eyeway took the time to understand Sachin’s situation and needs. They advised him to complete his 12th standard through a private form and suggested that he stay at NAB Satyam while also enrolling in their one-year course. Importantly, they also engaged with his parents, helping them understand that assistive technologies like smartphones with TalkBack and computers with screen readers could support Sachin’s independence.
This marked a turning point. Sachin began to explore and embrace technology. A friend gifted him a smartphone, and he started learning through YouTube—watching tutorials on basic coding, using screen readers, and navigating the internet. Although he initially wanted to pursue a BCA degree, he was unable to qualify due to subject limitations in his 12th grade. Instead, he enrolled in a BA through distance education while continuing to build his tech skills.
Sachin’s commitment and curiosity led him to several work opportunities. He started out as a Customer Care Executive and later took on the role of a Recruiter at VVNT, where he helped place 40–50 visually impaired individuals in accessibility testing roles. His work had a direct and positive impact on others in the community.
Today, Sachin is employed as a Web and Software Tester at Tata Agriculture and Horticulture, a position he earned after successfully completing a rigorous training program. He credits Eyeway for helping him get back on track—by showing him the value of education, introducing him to technology, and offering the support he needed at a crucial time.
Sachin’s story is a strong example of how the right guidance and access to resources can help people move from uncertainty to self-reliance, unlocking both potential and purpose.
