A Journey of Resilience and Growth

Born into a lower-middle-class family in Palgarh district of Maharashtra, Shreya and her sister Anchal both faced the challenges of partial blindness. Despite limited resources, their family’s unwavering support for education set the stage for Shreya’s remarkable journey.

Her early education took place in a regular school, where she studied till Class 7. However, when a surgery resulted in further vision loss, it became difficult for her to read or write, and she was unable to study alongside sighted kids. Adapting to this new reality, Shreya transferred to a special school from the Class 8 onwards.

Her determination shone through as she completed her high school education at the Dadar School for Blind Girls in Mumbai. This achievement paved the way for higher education, leading Shreya to graduate from KC College, Mumbai, with a degree in Hindi Literature.

During her final year of graduation, Shreya’s path crossed with Eyeway, an organization dedicated to supporting visually impaired individuals. This connection proved transformative, opening doors to new opportunities and resources. With Eyeway’s guidance, Shreya decided to pursue a master’s degree in Hindi Literature at KC College and began preparing for competitive exams using accessible study materials from recommended organizations.

Recognizing the importance of continuous skill development, Eyeway counselled Shreya to take two significant steps. She enrolled in an English-speaking course at Tanya English Speaking Centre in Mumbai. To further enhance her employability, she also joined a computer course at Victoria Memorial School in Mumbai, equipping herself with essential digital skills.

Despite the challenges she faces, Shreya maintains a vibrant spirit. She finds joy in dancing, cooking, and participating in stage shows and dramas, showcasing her ability to excel in various fields and challenging societal perceptions of visual impairment.

Her journey from a visually impaired student in Palghar to a confident young woman pursuing higher education and skill development in Mumbai is a powerful reminder of the impact that proper guidance and resources can have. She credits Eyeway for providing crucial information and connections, enabling her to enroll in courses essential for her personal and professional growth.
