Opening the doors to employment opportunity

Chandrakanta Kumari is a 24-year-old resident of Gaya, Bihar. While studying in Class 5, she was diagnosed with a retina issue which caused her vision to gradually deteriorate. But she was educated in a mainstream school despite her vision impairment. Chandrakanta belongs to an economically weak family and her two brothers are also visually impaired.

After her schooling, she went on to pursue her graduation in B.Sc Chemistry through Magadh University in Bihar. She faced a lot of difficulty to find scribes for government exams and those who were willing to write, charged a lot of money.

Despite all the hardships, she managed to finish her education but finding employment was yet another struggle. She’d given up all hope until she found Eyeway’s helpline number online and called us. She shared her concerns with the counselor hoping to arrive at a solution. The counselor advised her to learn how to use assistive technology like a smartphone and a smart cane, so that she can move around independently. She was also encouraged to enroll in a computer training course and simultaneously prepare for government exams.

Recently, Chandrakanta called up the Helpdesk to inform that she cleared her banking exam and has been employed as a clerk at the Bihar Co-operative Bank in Begusarai. She is also happy that the bank officials are supportive and are willing to provide her basic skill training for the job.
